Are you looking for the best way to farm souls in the newly released Dark Souls video game? If so, stop your search here as I have written this guide to help you learn how to do it without killing bosses early. There are several places and you should start by collecting two master keys. Where and how you collect keys, the method is written below. Read the detailed guide and proceed through the game when farming souls.
Find the Best Soul Farming Spot Early Without Killing Any Bosses
You start in a forest where everything is quiet, but danger hides in the shadows. Your goal is simple: reach the best farming location and start collecting souls — and you can do it without defeating a single boss.
Prepare Before You Begin
Pick two Master Keys before starting your journey. One can be chosen as a starting gift, and the other can be found while traveling to Behemoth Ranch. If you want a faster route, defeat Helkaiser at the start and buy two keys from the Black Rabbit.
Move through the Sacred Forest and find a hole in the wall. Tap it five times to receive a ring that doubles the number of souls you get from enemies.
If you haven’t already, defeat Helkaiser early and collect his sword. This weapon is one of the best for farming due to its power and special skill.
Reach the Farming Zone
After defeating or bypassing Helkaiser, you’ll enter a forest.
Light the fire in this area. From the fire, go right and pass through the next room to reach the Hippopotamus Ranch.
Stick to the right side of the path and try to avoid the boars. If you’re pulled into a fight, run away instead of engaging.
At the first fork, go right, then move slightly down, and then right again.
Optional: Meet the Goose
On your way, you’ll find a goose. You can free it by using one Master Key, but if you don’t have a spare, leave it alone and continue.
From the goose, go down until you reach another fork. Choose the right path, then go down again to find a bonfire.
From this bonfire, head right and you’ll reach a new fork:
- Going up leads to a mini-boss. Defeat it with well-timed parries to collect 7,500 souls.
- But for now, go down instead.
Use a Master Key to unlock one of the two doors and follow the corridor. This path leads you to the Desert.
Explore the Desert Area
You are now in a wide, open desert where it’s easy to get lost. To stay on track, start from the top-right corner of the area.
Move straight to the right until you reach the ruins.
From the ruins, go straight down and stop when you see a pyramid.
Enter the pyramid and open the two left-side chests. Avoid the third one, it’s a mimic and will attack.
Climb to the top of the pyramid to collect a Hero’s Soul worth 10,000 souls.
Leave the pyramid and continue down, going around the Black Scarecrow. Keep moving until you reach a ruined village.
In the center of the village, unlock the gate with your second Master Key. Go through the corridors to enter a winter area.
Make Your Way to the Castle
In the winter region, stick to the left wall and begin moving up. Follow the wall until you reach the top-right corner, where you’ll find another bonfire.
From there, go up again to enter a castle.
Inside the castle, move around the large pit, then go left and up (as shown in the in-game map or picture).
Soon, you’ll notice a white rabbit run into a hole. Follow it, jump into the hole, and fall down the cliff.
Farm Souls from the Rabbits
You’ve reached the farming zone.
Here, item icons are replaced with swirling pink rabbits. Look for the white rabbits — these are your targets.
Sometimes, you’ll see black clots instead of rabbits. Avoid fighting them. If you engage, they’ll teleport you back to the bonfire.
From your current location, head to the upper-right corner and walk through the white fog.
There’s no boss behind it. Walk calmly and light the bonfire for fast travel.
Important Tips for Farming
At the very beginning, you might not have enough damage or speed to kill the white rabbit before it escapes.
If this happens, follow an easy leveling guide to reach Level 30–40. Upgrade Helkaiser’s sword and spam its skill to close the gap.
With this setup, you’ll be able to kill at least 1 out of every 3 rabbits, giving you a solid source of souls.
Good luck in your farming journey! Keep grinding and return stronger.
