Ode to Castlevania Evolve List – My Go-To Upgrade Guide
If you’re diving into the Ode to Castlevania DLC for Vampire Survivors, you already know one thing: evolutions are EVERYTHING.
I still remember my first few runs — grabbing weapons randomly, opening chests with hope… and getting absolutely nothing because I forgot to max a passive. Painful lesson.
So here’s a cleaner, more engaging breakdown of every known evolution — plus some personal tips that saved my runs more times than I can count.
Magic Whip Evolutions
If a passive shows (Max), it must be fully leveled before opening a boss chest.
- Alchemy Whip + Tirajisu = Vampire Killer
- Wind Whip + Crown = Spirit Tornado Tip
- Platinum Whip + Clover = Cross Crasher Tip
- Dragon Water Whip + Attractorb = Hydrostormer Tip (called “Magnet” in-game)
- Sonic Whip + Skull O’ Maniac = Crissaegrim Tip
- Jet Black Whip + Stone Mask = Mormegil Tip
- Vibhuti Whip + Candelabrador = Daybreaker Tip
- Vanitas Whip + Hollow Heart = Aurablaster Tip
Personal tip: I usually prioritize Crown or Clover early. The faster scaling makes whip evolutions feel much smoother.
DLC Weapon Evolutions
- Shuriken + Empty Tome = Yagyu Shuriken
- Curved Knife + Bracer = Bwaka Knife
- Javelin + Spellbinder = Long Inus
- Discus + Parm Aegis (Max) = Stellar Blade
- Iron Ball + Armor = Wrecking Ball
- Hand Grenade + Candelabrador (Max) = The RPG
- Raging Fire + Spinach (Max) = Salamender
- Ice Fang + Spellbinder (Max) = Cocytus
- Gale Force + Bracer (Max) = Pneuma Tempestas
- Rock Riot + Stone Mask (Max) = Gemma Torpor
- Fulgur + Duplicator (Max) = Tenebris Tonitrus
- Mace + Hollow Heart (Max) = Stamazza
- Alucard Spear + Wings = Thunderbolt Spear
- Trident + Duplicator (Max) = Gungnir-Souris
- Guardian Targe + Pummarola = Sacred Beasts Tower Shield
- Silver Revolver + Karoma’s Mana = Jewel Gun
- Wine Glass + Tirajisu = Meal Ticket
- Keremet Bubbles + Armor (Max) = Keremet Morbus
- Hex + Skull O’ Maniac (Max) = Nightmare
- Refectio + Clover (Max) = Sanctuary
- Star Flail + Pummarola (Max) = Moon Rod
- Iron Shield + Parm Aegis = Dark Iron Shield
- Tyrfing + Spinach = Relic Sword
- Globus + Empty Tome (Max) = Nitesco
- Optical Shot + Karoma’s Mana (Max) = Acerbatus
- Sonic Dash + Wings (Max) = Rapidus Fio
Complex / Multi-Step Evolutions
These are the ones that made me double-check guides mid-run.
- Alucart Sworb (Lv. 8) → Chest = Alucard Swords
Then: Alucard Swords + any 6 Passives (Max) + any 6 Evolutions = Alucard Shield - Confodere (Lv. 6) → Vol Confodere → Melio Confodere
- Dextro Custos (Max) + Sinestro Custos (Max) + Centralis Custos (Max) = Trinum Custodem
- Dominus Anger (Max) + Dominus Hatred (Max) + Dominus Agony (Max) = Power of Sire
- Luminatio (Max) + Crown → Vol Luminatio (ranks 3 times)
- Umbra (Max) + Attractorb → Vol Umbra (ranks 3 times)
- Vol Luminatio (Max) + Vol Umbra (Max) = Universitas
- Endo Gears + Peri Pendulum + Myo Lift + Epi Head (All Max) = Clock Tower
When I finally pulled off Universitas, it honestly felt like beating a final boss.
Coat of Arms Weapons
The Coat of Arms allows you to choose from 16 vampire-killing weapons.
Evolve all 16 (across multiple runs) to unlock the default pick.
DLC weapons marked with *:
Whip
Axe
Knife
Santa Water
Runetracer
King Bible
Cross
Lightning Ring
Curved Knife*
Shuriken*
Javelin*
Iron Ball*
Discus*
Silver Revolver*
Hand Grenade*
Wine Glass*
Other Meta Unlocks
These are long-term goals — not single-run challenges.
- Morning Star — Evolve all 8 magic whip lines
- Belnades’ Spellbook — Evolve all 8 spell lines
- Spectral Sword — Evolve all 8 magic weapon lines
- Ebony Diabologue — Evolve all 8 glyph lines
- Hammer (Character) — Survive with 6 fully evolved DLC Coat of Arms weapons
I personally chased Morning Star first — whip builds are just too satisfying.
How Weapon Evolution Works (Quick Refresher)
To evolve:
- Base weapon must be Level 8 (unless noted).
- Required passive must be owned.
- If marked (Max), passive must be fully leveled.
- Open a boss chest.
Important Notes
- Mad Forest’s 1:00 Glowing Bat chest CAN evolve.
- Dairy Plant, Il Molise, Cappella Magna, and Boss Rash chests always evolve.
- Arcana chests (11:00 & 21:00) cannot evolve.
- Bracelet line & Candybox don’t require passives.
- Base weapon is removed when evolution happens.
- Multi-part evolutions remove all base components.
On the DLC map, use the pause screen’s green arrow to locate passives.
Avoid cursed rings unless you want extra chaos.
Final Thoughts
The Ode to Castlevania DLC massively expands build variety in Vampire Survivors. Some evolutions are straightforward… others feel like secret rituals you accidentally discover at minute 28 when your screen is already pure madness.
If you’re aiming for meta unlocks, plan your build from minute one. If you’re just experimenting? Embrace the chaos.
And trust me — nothing feels better than opening that chest and seeing the evolution animation when you finally got everything right.
