World of Warcraft Hotfixes: Wing Clip and Slows Nerfed Again

Blizzard's Sept. 22-24 hotfixes cut Wing Clip, Chrono Shift and Consecrated Ground's PvP slows as Midnight Season 2's anti-snare pass continues further.

Blizzard pushed three rounds of hotfixes to World of Warcraft between September 22 and September 24, and the pattern is unmistakable: Midnight Season 2's campaign against permanent PvP slows is still going. The latest wave trims movement-speed reductions on Hunter, Mage and Paladin abilities, on top of a Tuesday pass that touched almost every class's damage and healing numbers, fixed two dungeon exploits, and shipped a firmware update for player housing.

01The September 24 Slow Cuts

The newest hotfix continues the season-long effort to strip out near-permanent snares. Hunter's Wing Clip now reduces movement speed by 40% in PvP combat, with the Improved Snaring talent adding another 10% on top instead of stacking to the old, much higher total. Mage's Arcane PvP talent Chrono Shift drops from a 50% slow to 30%, and Paladin's Consecrated Ground falls from 50% to 20%. Blizzard also adjusted the Shadow Enclave delve variant Infiltrate and Ameliorate so the Oddball "Ingredient" now teleports to one of several points in the play space if it's dropped into the pit, closing off a spot players were using to strand it.

02Why Blizzard Keeps Nerfing Slows

This isn't an isolated tweak. Since Midnight Season 2 opened in August, the design team has been working through PvP's slow effects one ability at a time, specifically targeting the ones with near-permanent uptime or that apply passively out of a normal rotation. The logic, as the team explained heading into the season, is that when every class drags a slow behind its regular attacks, movement and positioning stop being meaningful counterplay. September's hotfixes are the latest installment of that pass rather than a one-off balance correction, so expect more individual ability nerfs to land in the coming weeks as Blizzard works down the list.

03Tuesday's Wider Class and PvP Pass

The September 22 hotfix was the heaviest of the three, touching PvE tuning across Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Druid, Evoker, Hunter, Mage, Monk, Paladin, Priest, Rogue and Warrior, largely aimed at Mythic+ performance. Blood Death Knight had its ability and minion damage trimmed by 6% while Death Strike's healing-linked damage rose 15%; Frost Death Knight's Frostreaper damage doubled and Obliterate rose 10%; and Demon Hunter's Devourer hero talent Collapsing Star now hits its primary target 25% harder. A separate PvP-specific pass rebalanced Death Knight San'layn plague damage, Druid survivability, Hunter burst windows, Mage damage caps and several other specs at once, on the same day Blizzard fixed crowd-control bypass exploits on Blade of the Altar in Altar of Fangs and Shrouded Fang in Temple of Sethraliss.

A day later, the September 23 hotfix cleaned up two side effects of the bigger pass: Unholy Death Knight's Blightfall was dealing less damage over time than intended, and Windwalker Monk had PvP-only adjustments to Celestial Conduit and Flurry Strikes bleeding into normal PvE content. Blizzard also fixed an edge case where Valeera's talents could get stuck after a faction change, requiring players to enter and leave a delve, then log out, to reset properly.

04Items and Housing

Itemization got a pass too. The trinket Preternatural Antivenom now heals for 75% more, Seed of Radiant Hope's cooldown dropped to one minute, and several stat-focused trinkets had their effects reduced to bring them back in line with the rest of the season's loot. On the cosmetic side, the Rustbolt Jetpack housing item received a firmware update Blizzard is calling "Ocular Non-Obstruction Mode," meant to stop its exhaust effects from obscuring the camera in tight indoor spaces.

05What's Next

None of this week's changes require a client update — hotfixes apply on realm restart or, in most cases, the moment they're pushed. If you're queuing Rated PvP, the Wing Clip and Chrono Shift numbers are already live on every realm, so builds that leaned on those talents for peel or kiting will feel noticeably weaker right now. The team also used last week's developer Q&A to preview more of where Midnight Season 2 is headed for both classes and dungeons, worth a watch if you want the reasoning behind where these hotfixes are trending next.

From the September 17 developer Q&A, where the team previewed more of where Midnight Season 2's class changes are headed.

Blizzard hasn't announced a date for the next scheduled hotfix batch, but going by September's cadence — three rounds inside a single week — another pass addressing whatever numbers look off after this weekend's ranked games wouldn't be a surprise.

FAQ

When did Blizzard release these World of Warcraft hotfixes?

Across three days — September 22, 23 and 24, 2026 — as part of the ongoing Midnight Season 2 balance pass.

Do these hotfixes require a client patch or download?

No. Hotfixes apply automatically, either instantly or on your next realm restart, without a game client update.

Why is Blizzard nerfing PvP slows again?

It's a season-long initiative that started when Midnight Season 2 launched in August, targeting abilities with near-permanent or passive slow uptime rather than a single balance fix.

Which specs changed the most in the September 22 hotfix?

Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Druid, Evoker, Hunter, Mage, Monk, Paladin, Priest, Rogue and Warrior all received PvE tuning, mostly aimed at Mythic+ performance, alongside a separate PvP-only balance pass.
