Patch 10.2.0 landed on October 6, 2026, and it's the biggest perk pass Dead by Daylight has had in years. Behaviour Interactive rebuilt 58 perks in one update — most of them the free general perks every new player unlocks first — and followed up days later with the 10.2.1 bugfix patch that locked in the final numbers on the new Abandon, Surrender and End Trial options. If you've been running the same loadout since before the Diminishing Returns system shipped in 9.6.0, large parts of your build are now stronger, weaker or just different. Here's what actually changed and which Survivor and Killer builds get the most out of it.

01What Patch 10.2.0 Actually Changed

Behaviour's own patch notes frame this as a pass on general perks specifically — the ones new Survivors and Killers gain access to before they've leveled up a single Teachable. Of the 58 perks touched, the developers said 26 were adjusted to fix how they interacted with Diminishing Returns, 23 were buffed to give newer players more viable options, and 9 were nerfed for promoting what the patch notes call "unhealthy playstyles" or for dodging Diminishing Returns entirely.

The patch also shipped the Survivor Intent System, a preset message wheel Survivors can open mid-match by holding the scroll button (or the right d-pad on controller) to send one of eight predefined messages. It comes with a 1-second cooldown that scales up to 5 seconds if you spam it, a mute option on the post-match Match Details screen, and an opt-out toggle in the new Gameplay tab under Settings — anyone who's turned it off shows a "no" icon so you know they won't see what you send.

Match-exit rules changed too. The Abandon option now covers draw-like situations (all other Survivors are bots, or all remaining Survivors are bots and the Killer isn't close to ending it), Surrender replaced the old all-Survivors-downed Abandon case and counts as an MMR loss, and a new Killer-side End Trial option sacrifices any remaining bot Survivors once they're all in the Dying State. The 10.2.1 patch also quietly removed the restriction that had made Shoulder the Burden deactivate for every other Survivor after one use, among other PTB-to-Live cleanups.

TipDiminishing Returns quietly reduces any repeated-category bonus in a match, so a buffed percentage on paper won't always apply in full if you're stacking two perks with overlapping effects — read the exact trigger condition, not just the number, before you commit a build.

02The Best Survivor Build for Solo Queue

The headline change for Survivors is that Windows of Opportunity got stripped down — it's now just Window auras within 24m, a 10% faster vault and a vault cooldown — and its old map-reading identity moved to Dark Sense instead. Dark Sense now triggers whenever a generator is completed and the Killer closes within 20m of you: for the next 13 to 15 seconds you see Pallet and Window auras within 32m, every other Survivor's aura, and the Killer's own aura. Since Dark Sense is a free general perk, it's the new foundation for any solo-queue build that wants map knowledge without spending a Killer's Teachable unlock on it.

Pair that with Kindred, whose aura range while hooked jumped from 8/12/16m to 14/15/16m, so a hooked Survivor reliably sees the Killer's aura and calls out a camp before someone commits to an unsafe save. Add Resilience, whose while-injured speed bonuses across repairing, healing, vaulting, unhooking and cleansing all rose to a flat 7/8/9% instead of the old 3/6/9% scaling — it's now strong from the moment you're hurt rather than only at max rank. Round the build out with the reworked Premonition, which now shows the Killer's aura for 3 seconds whenever you glance their way within 32m, on a shorter 45 to 55-second cooldown.

Dark Sense, Kindred, Resilience and Premonition give you a full information loop — know when the Killer is near a finished generator, know when a teammate is in danger, and move faster the moment you're hurt — without relying on a single Killer-specific Teachable, which is exactly the "general perks matter again" goal Behaviour described going into this patch.

03The Best Killer Build After the Perk Pass

On the Killer side, the standout buff is Agitation: the Haste bonus while carrying a Survivor jumped from 6/12/18% to a flat 14/16/18%, on top of the existing 12m Terror Radius increase. That turns Agitation into a genuine snowball perk for any Killer who wants to close distance to a hook before a save attempt lands. Pair it with Unrelenting, which now cuts your missed-attack cooldown by 30/35/40% (up from 20/25/30%) and adds a brand-new 10% reduction to your successful-attack cooldown, covering obstructed swings and the awkward whiffs against lockers and pallets that used to reset your tempo entirely.

Add Dead Man's Switch, which now triggers once a Survivor has stopped repairing a generator for more than 2 seconds rather than the instant they let go, blocking that generator for 30 to 40 seconds on a matching cooldown. The small delay rewards actually applying pressure to the generator you want to protect instead of punishing a Survivor for tapping off for a second. Finish the build with Bitter Murmur, whose per-generator aura range grew from 16m/5s to 20m/10s, and whose endgame burst — triggered once every generator is done — now shows every Survivor's aura for 16 to 20 seconds instead of 5 to 10.

Agitation, Unrelenting, Dead Man's Switch and Bitter Murmur work as a hook-pressure build: get to a hook fast, stay in control of your swings during the chase there, protect the generator you left behind, and get information the moment the Survivors think they're safe.

04Reworked Perks Worth a Second Look

A few reworks are easy to miss in the patch notes but change how a perk plays entirely. Hex: Thrill of the Hunt no longer passively defends every lit totem at once — it now ignites on your first hook and blocks all remaining Hex Totems for 4 to 6 seconds per lit totem each time you hook again, so it rewards hooking over turtling near your Hexes. Down to the Last was rebuilt around tokens earned from hooks and completed generators: at 3 or more tokens you can open the Hatch as the last Survivor standing, and each token hides your aura from the Killer for 6 to 10 seconds. Shattered Hope now blocks both Dull and Hex Totems for 16 to 20 seconds whenever any totem is touched, instead of only punishing Boon snuffs.

Not every PTB idea survived to Live. Windows of Opportunity's wider aura range stayed in because the team felt the old all-in-one version "overshadowed other perks," but This Is Not Happening lost its bonus to the Great Skill Check zone after players pointed out how it stacked with Hyperfocus, and Borrowed Time was reverted to its current Live version entirely after a PTB experiment with passive Deep Wound mending didn't land well in testing. If you were holding off on a build because you'd heard about the PTB numbers, check the Live patch notes before you commit — several of the biggest swings were toned down or walked back before release.

05The Survivor Intent System and New Match-Exit Rules

Alongside the perk pass, 10.2.0 added the Survivor Intent System so solo queue can coordinate without a voice chat app running on top of the game. Hold the scroll button or the controller's right d-pad to open a wheel of eight preset messages, release on the one you want, and it shows up next to your portrait for every Survivor in the match. You can mute anyone from the post-match Match Details screen without them being told, and if you'd rather not see messages at all, the new Gameplay tab under Settings lets you opt out entirely — other players just see a small "no" icon next to your name instead.

The old Abandon/Surrender rules also got clearer boundaries. Abandon now only applies to genuinely unbalanced matches — every other Survivor replaced by a bot, or every remaining Survivor a bot while the Killer still has work to do — and counts as an MMR draw rather than a loss. Surrender is reserved for when every human Survivor is simultaneously in the Dying State, and it costs you MMR the way leaving used to. On the Killer side, a new End Trial option appears once every remaining Survivor is a bot in the Dying State, closing out matches that have nothing left to decide instead of forcing a Killer to chase bots to the exit gate.
