Blizzard's Overwatch retail patch of September 8, 2026 is a wide balance pass landing in the back half of Season 4. It changes 21 heroes across all three roles, adjusts six Stadium powers, pulls the High Precision Mouse Input setting and re-enables the Black Forest map. A small hotfix followed on September 10. If you play Tank or Support, some of your habits need to change today.

01What Changed at a Glance

The theme is clear: tone down heroes that took over after recent updates and give struggling picks more uptime. The biggest numbers:

02Tank: D.Mon Gets Faster, Mauga Gets Squishier

D.Mon is the headline. Blizzard's notes say the hero "has settled into a strong position since launch," so the quality-of-life gains come with a damage trade. Call Mech's transformation now takes 0.95 seconds instead of 1.95, matching D.Va, plus a new one-second first-person bootup animation. Portable Fusion Repeater is more accurate, with spread down from 2 to 1.75 degrees, but its minimum falloff range drops from 30 to 20 meters. Plasma Saber loses 5 damage. In practice, you can re-mech mid-fight much more safely, but poking from long range pays off less. Play closer and use the saber trades that still work.

Mauga loses 25 base armor. The single-gun spread change from his last adjustment is reverted, and firing both Chainguns now has wider spread and falloff starting at 10 meters instead of 15. Stop holding both triggers at range. Single-fire is now the long-range option. D.Va gets 25 more mech health in 5v5, and Winston's Barrier Projector now runs on a 10-second cooldown in 5v5 but lasts 7 seconds instead of 8. Zarya's Particle Barrier moves up to a 12-second cooldown in 5v5, so use Projected Barrier on teammates more.

03Damage: Freja and Sierra Trimmed, Junkrat Buffed

Freja loses damage on both her crossbow and Take Aim, and her Relentless Barrage minor perk now refunds 5 bolts instead of 8. Sierra trades a little damage per shot for projectiles that are a third faster, which makes long-range hits more reliable. Tremor Charge also drops from 8.5 to 7 seconds. Junkrat's Concussion Mine cooldown drops from 8 to 7 seconds, which means more mine jumps and more combo damage. His Nitro Boost minor perk speed bonus drops from 125% to 100%.

Symmetra players should re-learn their teleporter spots. Placement range drops from 30 to 25 meters, so some long flank routes will no longer reach. Vendetta's Palatine Fang starts swinging faster (0.3s to 0.15s), but Whirlwind Dash and Sundering Blade recover more slowly. The September 10 hotfix also fixed a bug that affected Palatine Fang's range.

04Support: Kiriko Loses Reach, Baptiste Gets a Sturdier Field

Kiriko's Healing Ofuda now flies at 18 meters per second and seeks targets from 30 meters instead of 35, so pocketing a teammate from far away is harder. Protection Suzu's invulnerability falls to 0.5 seconds and its radius to 4 meters. You need to be closer and time it better. Baptiste's Immortality Field is now tougher (150 health), comes back sooner (20 seconds) and holds allies at 25% health instead of 20%. Brigitte shifts 25 health into armor. Jetpack Cat loses healing output, and stuns or mobility-locking effects on the carried target now break Lifeline. Wuyang's Restorative Stream regenerates faster (15% per second), while both it and Zenyatta's Harmony Orb now drop after 3 seconds out of line of sight instead of 5.

TipBefore queuing Competitive, spend a few minutes in the Practice Range on your main to relearn the new timings, such as D.Mon's 0.95-second Call Mech, Kiriko's slower Ofuda and Symmetra's 25-meter teleporter range.

05Stadium, Bug Fixes and the Hotfix

Stadium gets its own small pass. D.Va's MEKA Ejector power now cuts ultimate cost by 60%, Genji's Laceration refunds 2.5 seconds per target, and Ana's Falconer now gives 50% attack speed but only 10% ultimate charge. Junker Queen's Cut 'Em Gracie, Vendetta's Apex Bloodlust and Jetpack Cat's Territorial were all toned down. The patch also fixes Battle Pass XP not being granted in Stadium Quick Play. The September 10 hotfix fixed an unintended delay on Ramattra's Ravenous Vortex and stopped Jetpack Cat's Purr from passing through enemy barriers. Replay codes from September 8 still work.

06What Comes Next: Doctrine, Reworks and Season 5

This balance state has a short shelf life. At BlizzCon on September 12, Blizzard's official reveals post confirmed Doctrine, a vampire-inspired Support, as Hero 54. It also announced a new Escort map, Watchpoint: Grímsvötn, and major reworks for Roadhog and Sombra, with Sombra moving from Damage to Support. Doctrine's Hero Trial ran through September 14. Season 5 launches October 6, and so does Doctrine's full release. Support tier lists and Sombra guides will need a rewrite then.
