EA SPORTS FC 27's Future Stars campaign went live on October 9, bringing a new wave of Player Items for emerging talent and reviving the Future Stars Academy Evolutions line that lets you build your own breakout star from scratch.
01Rio Ngumoha headlines Team 1
The first wave, Future Stars Team 1, is fronted by Liverpool and England winger Rio Ngumoha, who EA says was one of the most-used Future Stars cards in last year's game: his FC 26 Future Stars Academy item racked up more than 312,000 Evolutions over the past year, by EA's own rounded count. He's joined by a wider group of rising men's and women's players pulled from across Europe and beyond, with a second Future Stars team due to be revealed on October 16.
02How the performance-based upgrades work
The headline mechanic hasn't changed from past years, but the timing has: Future Stars arrives earlier than in any previous EA SPORTS FC, with real-world performance tracking starting the same day as the promo and the first live upgrades landing February 3. Attackers and midfielders (CM, CAM, LW, LM, RW, RM, ST) upgrade off starts, goals and assists; defenders and goalkeepers (GK, RB, LB, CB, CDM) upgrade off starts and clean sheets, and a player has to actually feature in the match for a clean sheet to count.
In most leagues, two starts push a card's overall rating up a point, up to a cap of 86, with a third unlocking a second +1 to 87. The NWSL, MLS, Liga MX and Argentina's Liga Profesional run on a lighter version of the same ladder, with lower thresholds built around those leagues' shorter run of fixtures.
03Future Stars Academy and the PlayStyle+ Lab
Alongside the Team 1 cards, the Future Stars Academy returns as its own Evolution path. You pick an eligible striker or attacking midfielder born on or after October 9, 2003, enrol them, and push them through four Academy Evolutions over the course of the promo, with a dedicated Academy Objective dropping partway through. It's the same idea EA used to turn a cheap gold card into a meta-relevant, Ngumoha-style item last season, just running on this year's roster.
A separate PlayStyle+ Lab feature levels up in Week 2 of the promo, when the first UEFA "Star Performers" become eligible for their own PlayStyle+ upgrades starting October 17. EA is pairing that with weekly live content: a "Back to Basics" Exhibition in Week 1 that locks every squad into a 4-4-2 formation, followed by a second Ultimate Gauntlet and a new Flash Rush event in Week 2, plus a fresh run of Player and Puzzle Squad Building Challenges each week the promo runs.
