League of Legends Patch 26.20: Every Worlds 2026 Balance Change

League of Legends Patch 26.20 nerfs Ambessa and K'Sante, buffs Kennen and Lucian, and launches HEARTSTEEL's new skin line before Worlds 2026 begins.

League of Legends Patch 26.20 went live on October 7, closing out Riot Games' pre-Worlds balance window with nerfs to several pro-pick staples, buffs aimed at champions sitting on the edge of viability, and a fresh set of HEARTSTEEL skins. It's the last major patch before the 2026 World Championship begins on October 15, so most of what shipped today is tuned for the competitive meta first and solo queue second. The full official patch notes run long; here's what actually matters.

Riot's patch notes frame it directly: "we've got some adjustments to some pro staples like Ambessa & K'Sante, and buffs to weaker champions who might be on the edge of viability like Kennen & Kindred." That's the whole patch in one line — trim what pros keep forcing, prop up what nobody's picking.

TipIf you're climbing ranked this week, expect Ambessa, K'Sante and Cassiopeia to show up less in solo queue bans now that their pro-focused numbers are weaker. Hextech Rocketbelt is also a worse pure-Flash substitute, so immobile mages picking it up should budget for less ability haste.

01Champion Nerfs: Ambessa, K'Sante and the Pro-Lane Staples

Ambessa, this year's most reliable top-lane lock-in, loses passive damage at both ends of the curve: the scaling drops from 5-30 to 5-25, and the bonus attack damage ratio on that passive falls from 25% to 20%. K'Sante's identity as an unkillable all-in tank also gets trimmed — his W costs more mana to activate and his damage reduction window drops to 25/70%, a meaningful cut for a champion pro teams have leaned on as a lane-safe counter-pick.

Cassiopeia takes a base-stat cut instead of an ability nerf, losing 20 base health and 30 base mana, which mostly hurts her ability to survive early trades before she hits her power spikes. Yunara's on-hit poke on Q is reduced and her W slow no longer stacks with other slowing effects, closing off a kiting combo that had become a staple in both lanes. Ashe also loses attack damage growth per level, dropping from 3.5 to 3 — a quieter change, but one that affects every game she's in, not just the ones where she's being played around a specific combo.

02Champion Buffs: Lucian, Vayne, Smolder and the Rest of the List

Eleven champions get buffed this patch, aimed at pulling marginal picks back toward viable. Lucian's attack damage growth jumps from 2.5 to 2.9 per level, Vayne gets her Q mana cost reverted to a flat 30 and an adjustment to her health-per-five scaling, and Smolder's passive magic damage scaling and his ultimate's self-heal both go up substantially — a direct answer to a hero who's struggled to scale into the late game lately.

Support and jungle also get attention. Tahm Kench's Q base healing increases substantially, Kindred's monster damage modifier on W rises from 150% to 165% with an extended E slow duration, and Mordekaiser picks up stronger Q scaling between levels 10 and 20 alongside a shorter ultimate cooldown. Kennen's E attack speed goes up at every rank, Diana's W shield scales better off bonus health, Neeko's E does more damage with a longer empowered root, and Swain gets a small magic resist buff plus a stronger, cheaper W.

03Item Changes: Rocketbelt Gets Worse, Again

Hextech Rocketbelt — the dash item every immobile mage has been building — loses another 10 ability haste (down to 10 total) while its active damage jumps from 100 to 135, plus 15% AP scaling. Riot wants it to read as a damage item with a dash attached, not a purchasable Flash. Experimental Hexplate's ranged modifier drops to 50% of its old value to keep ranged top laners in check, which is also why Vayne could be buffed without reopening that debate. Runaan's Hurricane gets its per-bolt attack damage ratio trimmed from 65% to 60% after last patch's buff proved too strong. Fifteen items, including Death's Dance, Liandry's Torment and Kraken Slayer, also lose their on-screen stack counters in a scoreboard cleanup pass.

04HEARTSTEEL's Live My Life Skins Launch Today

Alongside the balance changes, Riot's virtual band HEARTSTEEL releases its "Live My Life" skin line for Aphelios, Ezreal, Kayn, K'Sante, Sett and Yone. Each is a 1,350 RP Epic skin except Sett's, which ships as a Prestige-tier skin tied to the paid Season 3 Act 2 battle pass. The set leans into streetwear and music-gear visuals rather than the group's earlier stage-performance theme, built around the band's new single of the same name.

05League Classic Brings Back Five More Champions

The retro-ruleset League Classic mode adds Aatrox, Caitlyn, Irelia, Karma and Quinn to its champion pool this patch, alongside its own separate balance pass: Fiora, Graves and Fizz get nerfed inside Classic specifically, while Kennen and a bugged Nautilus get buffed and fixed. Classic also gets its own tank-item buffs — Spirit Visage, Force of Nature and Warmog's Armor all gain extra health regeneration per five seconds, in that mode only.

06No, Team Voice Chat Isn't in This Patch

Riot's September 8 dev update previewed Team Voice — full team-wide voice chat gated behind Honor Level 3, plus voice skins and better noise cancellation — as a Patch 26.20 feature for North America and Oceania. That didn't happen. Riot delayed the rollout with Patch 26.19 on September 22, saying the feature hadn't yet hit the quality bar it wanted, without giving a new target date. Nothing in today's official 26.20 notes mentions Team Voice, so if you're hearing otherwise, you're reading an outdated preview, not the shipped patch.

Riot's September 8 dev update previewed Team Voice and League Classic plans; Team Voice was later delayed past this patch.

07System Changes: Private Replays and a Longer Ranked 5s Window

Two smaller but practical changes round out the patch. Replay downloads are now restricted to match participants only, cutting off the third-party tools that previously had broader access — a security fix rather than a gameplay one. Ranked 5s also gets a longer queue window, extended from 4pm-2am to 4pm-4am server time, giving five-stacks more hours to find a game. ARAM: Mayhem picks up its own tuning pass too, with changes to Bard, Garen, K'Sante, Lee Sin, Swain and Thresh, plus augment adjustments — Juiced loses its mana drain, Triggered Inferno's cooldown drops from 15 seconds to 5, and Missile Split now triggers on recast instead of on first hit.
