Ghost of Yōtei Most Wanted Trailer: Jin Sakai's Return Explained
Sucker Punch's Most Wanted trailer confirms Jin Sakai as a playable fighter alongside Atsu, Oyuki, and Nagato in Ghost of Yōtei's new roguelike mode.
Sucker Punch spent its first Ghost of Yōtei anniversary dropping the biggest reveal the game has had since launch: Jin Sakai, the hero of Ghost of Tsushima, is a playable character in the new Most Wanted survival mode. The confirmation came during State of Play Japan on September 3, in an official trailer posted straight to PlayStation's YouTube channel, and it's the centerpiece of everything landing in Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition. Here's what the trailer actually shows, cross-checked against Sucker Punch's own blog post from the same day.
01Jin Sakai Returns in Ghost of Yōtei: Most Wanted
Jin wasn't part of the original Most Wanted announcement back in August, which named only three playable characters. The September 3 trailer added him as a fourth, and Sucker Punch's animation and character art teams rebuilt his Ghost of Tsushima model to match Ghost of Yōtei's engine while keeping him recognizable. He fights with his katana across all four of his original stances, carries a Sticky Bomb and a hankyu short bow, and his Ultimate is a returning Ghost of Tsushima skill, Dance of Wrath, which disarms multiple enemies at once. His Kill Streak, fittingly, is Ghost Stance.
The armor connection runs deeper than the character himself. Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition's pre-order bonus, the Sakai Armor, is described by Sucker Punch as "a throwback to Jin's family armor from Ghost of Tsushima" — worn by Atsu in the main campaign, not by Jin in Most Wanted, but clearly part of the same anniversary tribute.
02What Is Ghost of Yōtei: Most Wanted?
Most Wanted is Sucker Punch's own take on a roguelike: a single-player combat survival mode bundled into Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition alongside the new story expansion. You select a bounty from a bounty board, and each one targets a different member of the Yōtei Six — the same group of lieutenants Atsu hunts across the main campaign. Reaching them means fighting through waves of enemies and minibosses first, and clearing a wave unlocks a perk that feeds into the build you're assembling for that run.
Bounties aren't one-and-done. Each can be replayed at escalating difficulty, and the ladder tops out at the hardest bounty in the mode: a fight against Lord Saito himself. It's a format built around repeat runs rather than a single linear story, which is the clearest sign yet that Sucker Punch wanted Most Wanted to have real replay value instead of functioning as a one-time unlockable extra.
03Meet the Four Playable Fighters
Once you've unlocked all four characters, you choose between them before a run. Each starts with a katana plus their own unique weapons, abilities, Ultimate, and Kill Streak, and Sucker Punch is explicit that the four play differently enough to be worth trying individually rather than settling on one early.
Atsu, the default starting character, wields dual katana and two Ghost Tools — Metsubushi blinding powder and a Blind Bomb. Her Ultimate, Call of the Pack, summons two wolves to take down nearby enemies, and her Kill Streak, Onryō's Howl, terrifies nearby enemies and forces one to flee. Oyuki fights with the kusarigama, kunai, and the tanegashima rifle; her Ultimate, Shadow Killer, unleashes smoke to assassinate two enemies at once, and her Kill Streak summons a Nine Tails ally for a limited time. Nagato uses the yari spear alongside a tanzutsu pistol, a yumi long bow, and a hankyu short bow — his Ultimate guarantees a headshot on two targets, and his Kill Streak refills his Concentration meter with an explosive arrow. Jin rounds out the roster with the stance-based moveset described above.
“Just revealed in State of Play, Jin Sakai will be one of our playable characters in Ghost of Yōtei: Most Wanted! We are so excited to have the hero of Ghost of Tsushima back for this new mode, complete with all four of his signature stances.”Andrew Goldfarb, Senior Communications Manager, Sucker Punch Productions
04Echoes of Sekigahara: Atsu's Unfinished Business With Nagato
The same State of Play also gave a fresh look at Echoes of Sekigahara, the narrative expansion included in Complete Edition. It's split across two timelines. In the present, Nagato — a figure from Atsu's past — has arrived in Ezo, wanted by the Vipers, a band of outlaws loyal to the Snake and left leaderless after his death in the main campaign. The Vipers have taken over Ashoro Foothills, a previously unseen stretch of Ezo that was once rich with wildlife and is now left devastated. Atsu has to reluctantly team up with Nagato to track down a close ally the Vipers have taken from her.

The second timeline flashes back to the Battle of Sekigahara on the mainland, where Atsu and Nagato fought side by side years earlier. Sucker Punch describes it as a key moment in Atsu's life before she returned home to pursue her quest for vengeance, and it's where the expansion introduces new enemy types, new heavy weapons, new mythic tales and abilities, and new armor sets and cosmetics. Anyone who's finished Ghost of Yōtei already knows how the present-day thread with the Vipers resolves in broad strokes — this is about filling in why Nagato matters to Atsu in the first place.
05Building a Run: Bounties, Mon, and Perks
Most Wanted's structure rewards more than just finishing a bounty. Taking down enemies earns Mon, a currency you spend outside of runs to unlock new techniques, weapon upgrades, charms, and additional character unlocks — so even a failed run still moves your account forward. During a run, the actual build-crafting happens through perks: as you progress, you'll repeatedly choose between options covering weapon mastery, gear loadouts, summons, parries, survivability, and more. Sucker Punch frames mixing and matching perks as the real source of Most Wanted's variety, since the same character can play very differently depending on which perks you've stacked by the time you reach a bounty's final boss.

There's also a crossover benefit worth knowing about before you dive in: any cosmetics earned through Most Wanted runs carry over into the main game, so armor or dye you unlock grinding bounties shows up on Atsu during her original quest for vengeance, and in Echoes of Sekigahara too.
06Trailer Breakdown and Release Details
