Borderlands 4: Best Loveless the Hacker Build After Update 1.11

Patch 1.11 buffed Loveless the Hacker's Contagion, Wyrm and capstone skills in Borderlands 4 — here's the build and leveling order to run after the update.

Loveless the Hacker has only been in Vault Hunters' hands since September, but Gearbox's Update 1.11 on October 22 turned her into one of the strongest picks in Borderlands 4. Contagion Executable damage jumped 33%, Lag Switch rose 66%, and two of her best passives had their per-point scaling doubled. If you tried her at launch and bounced off, this is the patch that fixes most of what felt weak.

This build leans on her Manifestation skill tree and the Malignant Construct action skill — the one that digistructs her symbiotic Wyrm — and backs it up with Virology passives for extra Corrosive and Radiation damage. It's built around the exact numbers Gearbox shipped in Patch 1.11, not pre-patch guesswork, and it scales from your first points through endgame Mayhem content.

01Why Loveless Is Worth Building Around After Patch 1.11

Loveless' trait is RAM, a meter that fills every time she lands a Critical Hit or inflicts a Status Effect. A full RAM bar empowers her next melee attack with her Techno-Kagi claws for a burst finisher, or you can hold onto it and let her gun damage scale with however full the bar is. The bar drains if you go too long without a crit or a status proc, so this build is built to keep both coming constantly.

She has three skill trees, and Update 1.11 touched all of them, but Manifestation and Virology got the clearest buffs:

  • Virology — built around Plague Star, the shuriken that inflicts Contagion, a Corrosive damage-over-time effect that jumps to new enemies when its host dies.
  • Hack/Slash — built around Visual Paradox Nexus, a stealth-and-clone action skill that plays closer to a melee-and-crit assassin.
  • Manifestation — built around Malignant Construct, which summons her digital Wyrm to fight alongside her and grants Symbiosis Stacks that buff Loveless while it's active.

This guide centers on Manifestation with a Virology secondary, since that's the combination Patch 1.11 buffed the hardest.

TipOpen every fight with a Contagion-inflicting shuriken throw rather than a clean gunshot — it's the fastest way to start filling RAM, since status effects charge the bar just like Critical Hits do.

02The Core Build: Malignant Construct and the Wyrm

Malignant Construct lets you press your action skill to summon the Wyrm, which fights independently while you play. Summoning it grants Symbiosis Stacks that passively buff Loveless, and the stacks deplete over time unless the Wyrm keeps killing or you refresh them with certain passives. The skill also carries a Function and an Executable, and Patch 1.11 buffed both:

  • Function (tap again): orders the Wyrm to teleport to a target and deal Radiation damage in an area around it.
  • Executable (hold): orders the Wyrm to unleash a Breath Attack dealing Radiation melee damage. Patch 1.11 moved nuk.exe's explosion to a Singularity that now lingers for seven seconds instead of resolving instantly, giving the Wyrm's burst window real staying power.

Two capstone-level passives make this build work at endgame:

  • Refactored Damage Formula now grants a 1.5x or 2.0x damage multiplier (up from a flat bonus pre-patch), making it the single biggest damage node in the tree.
  • enrag.exe now goes on cooldown only after the Wyrm lands a successful Executable Override on an enemy, so you're no longer punished for using it early in a fight.

Gearbox also increased the Wyrm's base speed and turn rate in this patch specifically so it finds and sticks to targets faster, which matters a lot once you're relying on it for sustained Radiation damage rather than just a cooldown gimmick.

03The Skills Patch 1.11 Buffed (and Why They Matter Here)

These are the exact per-point and flat changes from the October 22 patch notes that this build is designed around:

SkillTreeChange in Patch 1.11
Contagion ExecutableVirologyDamage increased 33%
Lag SwitchVirologyDamage increased 66%
Kernel PanicVirologyExecutable damage bonus per point per stack rose from 5% to 10%, now a clear multiplier
Pure FusionManifestationMaximum Health bonus per point rose from 6% to 10%
Refactored Damage FormulaManifestationNow a 1.5x or 2.0x multiplier
d://FileVirologyNow applies Radiation instead of converting shuriken damage to Radiation

Put points into Pure Fusion early — the jump to 10% per point means a handful of ranks meaningfully pads your health pool while you're learning the Wyrm's new, faster pathing. Kernel Panic is the Virology passive worth crossing trees for: since it's now a flat multiplier per stack instead of a small additive bonus, it compounds with every stack of Contagion you've spread across a pack of enemies.

The d://File change matters for how you use Plague Star even in a Manifestation-focused build: it still ricochets and spreads Radiation, but no longer forces your whole shuriken kit onto Radiation at the cost of Corrosive, so you can keep both elements active against enemies with mixed resistances.

04Gear, Class Mod and Elemental Priorities

Because this build pulls damage from two elements at once — Corrosive from Contagion and Plague Star, Radiation from the Wyrm's Breath Attack and Teleport — prioritize gear this way:

  • Class Mod: look for a Manifestation-focused mod that boosts Symbiosis Stack generation or Wyrm Executable damage; a secondary Virology bonus to Contagion duration is the best complement.
  • Weapons: a Corrosive weapon for armored targets and a Radiation weapon for shielded or Vault Guardian-type enemies covers both halves of this kit. Your RAM-empowered melee swing scales off whatever element you've got equipped, so don't neglect a strong Corrosive or Radiation melee-boosting relic either.
  • Shield: something with fast recharge over raw capacity — this build wants you landing crits and status procs constantly to keep RAM topped up, which means staying in the fight rather than kiting behind full cover.

Avoid stacking pure melee gear until you've leveled past the early Manifestation nodes. The Wyrm does the heavy lifting for the first third of this build; your own melee is a finisher, not your primary damage source, until you've unlocked the mid-tree passives that scale it up.

05Leveling Order: How to Spec Into This Build

Follow this order to stay durable early and ramp into full Wyrm uptime by the time you hit endgame content:

Loveless Leveling Order After Patch 1.11

  1. 1Put your first points into Pure Fusion in the Manifestation tree. Its Max Health bonus per point rose to 10% in Patch 1.11, so a few early ranks make you durable while you're still learning the Wyrm's new, faster pathing.Levels 1-6
  2. 2Grab Malignant Construct itself as soon as it's available and start using it on cooldown, even against trash mobs, to build the habit of keeping Symbiosis Stacks active rather than letting them lapse.Levels 7-14
  3. 3Spend a handful of points reaching Kernel Panic. Its Executable damage bonus is now a clear per-stack multiplier instead of a small additive bonus, so it scales directly with how aggressively you spread Contagion.Levels 15-22
  4. 4d://File now applies Radiation on top of your shuriken's existing effects rather than converting it, so you keep both Corrosive and Radiation damage active. Contagion Executable's 33% damage increase makes detonating stacked Contagion worth building around directly.Levels 23-30
  5. 5Prioritize the nodes that improve the Wyrm's Teleport and Breath Attack. The Singularity left behind by nuk.exe's buffed explosion now lingers for seven seconds, so positioning the Wyrm to detonate it near grouped enemies pays off more than before.Levels 31-40
  6. 6This capstone now grants a 1.5x or 2.0x damage multiplier instead of a flat bonus, making it the highest-priority endgame node in the entire build. Finish your tree here before touching Hack/Slash.Levels 41-50

06Alternate Build: Solo Boss Killing With Virology

If you're farming a specific boss solo rather than running content as a group, a Virology-heavy respec is worth keeping as a swap. Lean hard into Plague Star and Contagion Executable — now 33% stronger — and use Kernel Panic as your primary damage multiplier instead of a secondary pickup. Against single, high-health targets that don't die fast enough for Contagion to jump to new hosts, the buffed Executable detonation alone carries most of your damage, and you can skip the Wyrm entirely to free up points for more Corrosive penetration and status effect chance.

This is a genuinely different playstyle from the Manifestation build above — less pet management, more direct shuriken-and-detonate rotations — so treat it as a situational loadout rather than your default endgame spec.

07Troubleshooting and Common Mistakes

A few things trip up new Loveless players even after this patch:

  • Letting RAM drain between fights. The bar depletes if you haven't scored a crit or inflicted a status effect recently, so land at least one proc before engaging a new group rather than walking in empty.
  • Using the Executable too early. Since enrag.exe's cooldown now only starts after a successful Executable Override, using it the instant it's available against a target that's about to die anyway wastes the window; save it for when the Wyrm can actually land the override.
  • Ignoring Symbiosis Stack upkeep. They deplete over time, so resummoning the Wyrm on cooldown — even against trash mobs — keeps your passive buffs active rather than letting them lapse between bigger fights.
  • Forgetting to restart after patching. Gearbox's own patch notes for 1.11 specifically call out restarting the game after the update to avoid matchmaking connection errors, which can otherwise look like a build or skill bug.

FAQ

Is Loveless good after Patch 1.11, or was she only fixed in specific areas?

Patch 1.11 buffed her broadly across all three trees, but Virology and Manifestation got the clearest damage increases, including a 33% boost to Contagion Executable and a 66% boost to Lag Switch. Hack/Slash was largely untouched in this patch.

Do I need the Story Pack 2 DLC to use this build?

Yes. Loveless the Hacker is a paid DLC Vault Hunter included in Story Pack 2: FL4K and the Last Resort, which launched alongside Version 1.10 on September 10, 2026. She isn't available to base-game-only players.

Should I run Manifestation or Hack/Slash as my main tree?

Manifestation is the stronger pick after Patch 1.11, since its capstone, Refactored Damage Formula, now scales as a 1.5x or 2.0x multiplier. Hack/Slash still plays well for a precision-and-melee crit playstyle, but it didn't receive comparable buffs this patch.

What's the single biggest damage upgrade from this patch for a Wyrm build?

Refactored Damage Formula's shift to a 1.5x or 2.0x multiplier is the largest single change. Kernel Panic's move to a clear per-stack multiplier is the second-biggest, especially once you're spreading Contagion across groups.

Why does my RAM bar keep draining mid-fight?

RAM depletes if you go too long without landing a Critical Hit or inflicting a Status Effect. Open engagements with a Contagion-inflicting shuriken throw rather than a clean weapon shot to keep the bar filling from the start of the fight.
