PUBG Weapon Tier List: Best Guns After the Update 44.1 LMG Reset

Update 44.1 reverts the LMG Meta Rotation and buffs every vehicle's durability in PUBG — here is how every weapon class ranks on the new patch.

PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS just reversed one of its biggest balance experiments of the year. Update 44.1's patch notes, posted November 3, end the LMG Meta Rotation months ahead of schedule and send the M249, MG3, and RPD back to where they stood before August. At the same time, every vehicle in the game gets a durability boost, which changes how much you should still care about a gun's bonus damage against cars and bikes. Here's where every weapon class lands now that the dust has settled.

01What Changed in Update 44.1

KRAFTON's original Meta Rotation dev letter launched this experiment in August, applying aggressive buffs to LMG reload speed, recoil, aim-down-sights speed, and vehicle damage specifically because the class had low pick rates as a primary weapon. It worked too well. By October, LMGs had climbed to the second-highest usage rate among short- and mid-range weapons (excluding snipers), and KRAFTON's own data showed vehicle explosion rates, tire destruction, and BRDM-2 losses all spiking after the August changes.

A September hotfix, Update 43.1, already walked part of it back: LMG aim-down-sights time slowed from 0.30 to 0.37 seconds, the bonus vehicle-damage multiplier dropped from 1.1x to 1.0x on the M249 and RPD and from 1.25x to 1.1x on the MG3, and world spawn rates for the RPD and M249 fell 30%. Update 44.1 finishes the job: reload time, recoil, aiming speed, the vehicle damage multiplier, stance-based recoil control, and world spawn amounts for the whole class revert to their pre-August values. The M249 and MG3 go back to exactly where they were in July; the RPD, which didn't exist before the rotation, gets tuned to sit in line with the other two instead of being reverted outright. KRAFTON says a second rotation is now planned for 2027 instead of this December.

One thing worth stressing: the 44.1 notes make no changes at all to assault rifles, SMGs, shotguns, or sniper rifles. Everything below that isn't an LMG keeps the standing it already had going into this patch — this list ranks that unchanged majority of the arsenal the same way we always do, as our own read of each weapon's role and reliability rather than a claim about hidden stat sheets KRAFTON hasn't published. Treat the non-LMG tiers as opinion grounded in how these guns have played for months, and treat the LMG section as the one part of this list that moved because of a dated, sourced patch note.

TipRe-test your LMG recoil pattern in the Training Range before relying on the M249 or MG3 in ranked — Update 44.1 reverts their aim-down-sights speed and recoil control to pre-August values, so muscle memory from the last three months will be wrong.

02S Tier: The Best Weapons Right Now

M416 — Still the most complete assault rifle in the game. It takes every attachment PUBG offers, its recoil is the most forgiving in the AR class, and nothing about 44.1 touches it. If you only trust one gun across every range, this is it.

Kar98k — The benchmark bolt-action sniper rifle. A chest hit at range still threatens a kill, a headshot almost always ends the fight, and it spawns commonly enough on every map that building around it is realistic in a given run.

Beryl M762 — The hardest-hitting full-auto rifle that's still common enough to plan around. Its recoil punishes spray-and-pray play, but a controlled burst does more damage per hit than anything else in the AR class.

03A Tier: Strong, Reliable Picks

AKM — Cheap ammo, high per-shot damage, and no attachment dependency to function. It loses to the M416 in a long fight because of its recoil, but it's a better early pick when loot is thin.

SCAR-L — The gentlest AR to control, trading some of the AKM's and Beryl's raw damage for a gun that's easy to land shots with the moment you pick it up.

Vector — The best close-range SMG in the game when you can keep it fed; its fire rate burns through a magazine fast, but nothing out-trades it inside a building.

UMP45 — Less explosive than the Vector but far more forgiving on ammo, and it still wins most point-blank fights.

AWM — The hardest-hitting sniper rifle in the game, limited only by how rare its ammo is. Worth carrying the moment you find one, even if you can only feed it a handful of shots.

04B Tier: Solid But Situational

Groza — A crate-exclusive AR with a damage ceiling above the M416's, held back only by how rarely you'll find one and its ammo.

QBZ95 and Mk47 Mutant — Both capable rifles that ask more of the player than the S-Tier picks, whether that's a tighter recoil pattern to learn or a semi-auto-only firing mode to adapt to.

SKS and Mini14 — Solid DMRs for a player who wants sniper-rifle damage without giving up a faster follow-up shot. Neither one-shots like the Kar98k or AWM, but both are far more common.

MP5K — A fast, flat-shooting SMG that's a reasonable Vector substitute when ammo is tight.

05C Tier: Underwhelming for Now

S12K — A semi-auto shotgun that does real damage up close but loses to any of the S- or A-Tier rifles the moment the fight opens past room range.

DBS — Two shots before a reload sounds good until you miss the first one; it's a strong ambush weapon and a weak everything else.

VSS — A suppressed, low-recoil DMR that trades real stopping power for staying quiet, which matters less once a fight is already loud.

P1911 and P92 — The starting pistols. Fine for the first thirty seconds of a match, not a weapon you should still be holding once you've looted a building.

06D Tier: Hard to Recommend

M249 and MG3 — Both land here for the same reason: Update 44.1 reverts their aim-down-sights speed, recoil control, and vehicle damage multiplier to pre-August values, and their world spawn rate drops back down with them. The sustained fire rate that made them appealing for three months is still there, but so is the slower aim-in and the weight that made them a poor fit for anyone who isn't holding a fixed position.

RPD — Added alongside the original LMG buffs in August, it doesn't get fully reverted like its two classmates, but 44.1 brings it in line with the rest of the LMG class rather than letting it stay the outlier. Expect it to feel closer to the M249 than to the gun it was in September.

07Tougher Vehicles Change the Math

The other headline change in 44.1 is a blanket vehicle durability pass, scaled by vehicle type. The Motorcycle, Scooter, Dirt Bike, Snowmobile, Motor Glider, Aquarail, Boat, Buggy, and Quad get an 8% health increase; the Dacia, Mirado, Coupe RB, Pony Coupe, Tukshai, Zima, UAZ, Pickup, Rony, Blanc, and Pillar Security Car get 10%; and the Porter, Pico Bus, Van, Food Truck, Pillar UAZ, and BRDM-2 get 15%. Tire durability climbs too, with the slowest, boxiest vehicles gaining the most — 75% more on the Porter, Food Truck, Van, and Pico Bus, 30% on the Zima, UAZ, Blanc, Rony, and Pickup. The BRDM-2 also handles better on hills and tops out at a higher speed.

That matters for this list because it arrives at the same time the LMG vehicle-damage multiplier reverts downward. Going into this patch, a geared LMG was genuinely one of the faster ways to pop a car; coming out of it, that gun is both worse at the job and facing a tougher target. If your loadout leaned on an LMG specifically to deny vehicle rotations, that plan is weaker on both sides of the equation now, and a frag grenade or a dedicated anti-vehicle pick does the job more reliably than it did a week ago.

The patch also grows storage on a few of those same vehicles — the Van, Pico Bus, and Food Truck gain dedicated trunk storage with 300 capacity, and the Coupe RB's trunk grows from 100 to 120 — so the vehicles that got the biggest durability bump are also now better for hauling a full squad's loot between fights. None of that changes which gun wins a direct firefight, but it's a real reason to favor those models over a faster, more fragile ride if you're already deciding between two parked options.

Ranked Season 44 also began with this patch, and its reward track is worth knowing about even if you never touch an LMG. Your final Season 43 tier determines your reward set, the new season adds a permanent P90 weapon skin for anyone who finishes Platinum or higher, and the minimum performance standards required to hold Platinum or above have been raised — so climbing back to the rank you had last season may take more consistent play than it used to, independent of anything on this weapon list.

How to Adjust to Update 44.1

  1. 1Spend a few minutes in the Training Range with the M249 or MG3 before trusting them in a ranked match — Update 44.1 reverts their aim-down-sights speed and recoil control to pre-August values, so three months of muscle memory is now wrong.3 min
  2. 2If you were carrying an M249 or MG3 specifically to pop cars faster, swap it out. The bonus vehicle-damage multiplier reverts to 1.1x on the M249 and RPD and 1.25x on the MG3, down from the higher values tested since August, and vehicles themselves just got tougher on top of that.1 min
  3. 3Update 44.1 makes no changes to assault rifles, SMGs, shotguns, or sniper rifles, so there's no reason to rebuild a loadout built around the M416, Kar98k, or Vector — nothing about how they play has moved.0 min
  4. 4These gained the biggest durability pass (15% health, 75% more tire durability) and new trunk storage, making them the safer pick when you're hauling a full squad's gear between fights.1 min
  5. 5Your final Season 43 tier sets your reward set for Season 44, and the minimum performance standard to hold Platinum or above has gone up, so review your Career page before the leaderboard resets at maintenance.2 min
  6. 6The limited-time mode returns with a single harder Nightmare tier set on a reworked Jadena City, running on PC from November 4 through 25 — a good test of whether your updated loadout actually holds up.varies

FAQ

When does PUBG Update 44.1 go live?

PC maintenance runs November 4, 2026 from 00:00 to 08:30 UTC, confirmed by PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS Support on X. Console maintenance follows on November 12, 2026 from 01:00 to 09:00 UTC.

Why is the LMG Meta Rotation ending early?

KRAFTON says the August buffs pushed LMG usage past its intended target and caused unintended spikes in vehicle destruction, so the team ended the rotation with Update 44.1 instead of running it through December as originally planned.

Which weapons actually change in Update 44.1?

Only the LMG class — the M249, MG3, and RPD. KRAFTON's patch notes confirm no balance changes to assault rifles, SMGs, shotguns, or sniper rifles this update.

Did the LMG vehicle-damage bonus disappear completely?

No — it reverts to its pre-August level rather than disappearing, back to a 1.1x multiplier on the M249 and RPD and 1.25x on the MG3, down from the higher values KRAFTON tested over the past three months.

Is a new LMG spotlight coming soon?

Not immediately. KRAFTON says it's reviewing how the first rotation ran and now plans a second Meta Rotation for 2027 instead of this December as originally scheduled.
