AION 2 went fully live on PC worldwide on October 5, 2026, after a five-day Founder's Pack early access window that opened September 30. Developer and publisher NC built it as a direct sequel to the original AION, picking the story up roughly 200 years later and carrying the Elyos-versus-Asmodian war into a world NC says is roughly 36 times larger than the first game's. If you just rolled a Daeva and have no idea where to start, this guide covers the choices and systems that matter most in your first few hours.

Unlike the original AION's Korean and Taiwanese release, the global version launched PC-only through Steam and NC's own PURPLE launcher, with no mobile client. It's also free to play, which is why servers filled up fast: NC has said the game drew more than 400,000 concurrent players on its first day. That's a lot of company while you're still learning the controls, so it's worth getting your fundamentals right before you get swept into a faction war you don't understand yet.

01Choosing Your Faction: Elyos or Asmodian

Every new Daeva picks a side before anything else. AION 2 keeps the series' core split between the Elyos and the Asmodians, two factions that start in separate regions and are built toward an eventual large-scale confrontation with each other. Both factions have access to the exact same roster of classes at global launch, so this isn't a mechanical choice the way picking a class is — it decides your starting zone, your early story, and which side of the realm-versus-realm war you'll be fighting on once you reach the Abyss.

If you're not sure which to pick, don't overthink it. The starting regions and questlines are mirrored in tone and pacing, and nothing about your first few hours changes dramatically based on faction. What does matter is checking which side your friends are rolling on first, since Elyos and Asmodian characters on the same world can't party together outside of specific neutral content.

02Picking a Class for Your First Daeva

AION 2 shipped globally with eight classes: Gladiator, Templar, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric, and Chanter. A ninth class, Brawler, was added to the Korean and Taiwanese version in mid-2026 but isn't part of the initial global roster, so don't expect to find it in your character creation screen yet.

The eight launch classes map onto the trinity you'd expect from an MMORPG: Templar and Gladiator are your front-line melee options, Assassin and Ranger lean on burst and mobility, Sorcerer and Spiritmaster cover ranged magic damage, and Cleric and Chanter handle healing and support. If you're brand new to the genre, Templar or Cleric are the most forgiving starting picks simply because tanking and healing give you a clear job to focus on while you learn AION 2's combat timing; if you'd rather just hit things, Gladiator is the straightforward melee DPS option.

Combat itself blends target-based skills with action-oriented positioning — NC has described it as built around precision, timing, and chaining abilities rather than following a fixed rotation, and that's true across every class. Don't expect to just hold down one button and win; blocking, dodging, and repositioning in three dimensions (AION 2 lets you fight while airborne) matter from your very first dungeon.

The two ranged casters are worth separating out if you're torn between them. Sorcerer leans on direct elemental damage and is the more straightforward pick if you want to see big numbers quickly, while Spiritmaster works through summoned spirits and debuffs, which takes a little longer to click but gives you more utility in group content. Neither is a wrong choice for a first character; they just reward slightly different playstyles once you're past the early levels.

03From Character Creation to First Flight

AION 2's character creator is one of its most heavily marketed systems, and for good reason: NC lists more than 200 customization sliders and options, on top of outfits, mounts, and wings you'll unlock later through play. Take your time here. Some of the appearance choices, especially face and body sculpting, are much harder to revisit once you're deep into leveling than they are to get right at creation.

TipAION 2's character creator carries more customization weight than most MMORPGs' — with 200+ sliders plus unlockable outfits, mounts and wings — so it's worth sitting in creation an extra few minutes rather than fixing your Daeva's look after you've already sunk hours into leveling.

Once you're in the world, your early-game goal is simple: finish the opening questline fast enough to unlock flight, because flight isn't a sidegrade in AION 2 — it's the core traversal and combat system the entire game is designed around. Every region is built with verticality in mind, and a lot of early quests are really just tutorials for using altitude as an advantage in a fight rather than just a way to get from one objective marker to the next.

Your First Hours in AION 2

  1. 1Choose your faction before anything else — it sets your starting region and story, not your class options, since both factions share the same eight-class roster.5 min
  2. 2Pick from Gladiator, Templar, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric or Chanter. Templar or Cleric are the most forgiving first picks.10 min
  3. 3Spend real time here — AION 2 has over 200 customization options, and face and body sliders are harder to revisit later than to get right now.15 min
  4. 4Flight is AION 2's core traversal and combat system, not a cosmetic extra. Push through the early story until it unlocks.1-2 hr
  5. 5Use the early solo and party dungeons to learn your class's cooldowns before queuing into anything harder.1-2 hr
  6. 6Prioritize dungeon drops first; crafting pays off more once you've settled on a main class.30 min
  7. 7Wait until you're flight-capable and have cleared a handful of group dungeons before queuing into AION 2's open PvP-vs-PvE zone.20 min

04Daeva Bootcamp: Your First Dungeons

Your first real test of class fundamentals comes in group content. AION 2 launched with more than 200 dungeons across different formats — solo instances, 5-player parties, and 10-player group content, plus structured modes like Expedition, Transcendence, Nightmare Dungeon, and Sealed Dungeon runs that scale up in difficulty as you progress. You don't need to chase the harder formats on day one; the early solo and 5-player dungeons exist specifically to teach you your class's cooldowns and your party's expected role before anything punishes you for getting it wrong.

NC has been running a global community push around early dungeon clears, branded in its own social posts as the "Daeva Bootcamp" — a running milestone tracker where the whole playerbase's combined dungeon clears unlock mailbox rewards for everyone once thresholds are hit.

Practically, that means there's no reason to sit out of group dungeons while you're still learning. Even a rough first clear contributes toward the server-wide milestones, and running the same early dungeon two or three times is genuinely one of the fastest ways to get comfortable with your class's skill chain before you take it into faction war content.

05The Abyss and AION 2's Other PvP Systems

Once you've got a handle on your class in PvE, the Abyss is where AION 2's faction war actually plays out. It's the series' signature PvP-vs-PvE zone, where Elyos and Asmodian forces clash over territory while also fighting shared PvE threats inside the same space — NC has specifically framed it as a system that keeps PvE and faction war "never far apart." Beyond the Abyss, AION 2 also runs Arena and Battlefield modes for smaller, more contained PvP, and Rift events that temporarily cross factions into each other's territory.

New Daevas shouldn't rush into the Abyss underleveled. It's built as endgame-adjacent faction content, and going in without having cleared a reasonable run of early dungeons mostly means dying to players who already understand their class's full kit. Scout it once you're flight-capable and have cleared a handful of group dungeons, not the moment you unlock the queue.

It's also worth remembering that the Abyss rewards coordination over solo heroics. Because it mixes open PvP with shared PvE objectives, a disorganized group can lose ground just as easily to the environment as to the opposing faction. Queue in with at least a couple of people you know the first few times, even if that just means grouping up with guildmates for a single evening, so you're not learning the zone's layout and the enemy faction's positioning at the same time.

06Gearing Up Through Crafting and Trading

Gear in AION 2 comes from three overlapping sources: dungeon drops, crafting, and the player trade system. Gathering and crafting are both full systems in their own right rather than side activities, and because the game supports direct player trading, the early-game economy is active enough that you can often buy your way past an awkward gear check instead of farming it out, if you'd rather spend time questing or in dungeons.

If you're focused purely on getting through your first faction war encounters, prioritize dungeon gear over crafted gear at first — it drops faster relative to the time invested, and crafting pays off more once you've settled into a main class and know which stats you actually want to chase.

AION 2's official YouTube channel put out a short beginner's guide of its own covering the basics in video form, which is worth a watch if you'd rather see the UI and flight controls in motion than read about them.
