Battlefield 6's Season 5 update, Siege of Vegas, is live, and it reshapes more than just the map rotation. Game Update 2.1.1.0 landed on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on October 13 at 8:00 UTC, with the season's maps, weapons and modes switching on at 12:00 UTC the same day. If you only have time to learn one thing before you queue up, it's this: the anti-air rework changes how every vehicle fight plays out, and the new weapons arrive without a clear unlock path spelled out in the patch notes, so you'll want a plan before you dive in.

TipArmor plating now applies 20% faster in Battle Royale and Rapid Royale — stack that with the Quick Plating Engineer perk for a 32% total speed boost if REDSEC is your focus this season.

01What Changed in Game Update 2.1.1.0

Siege of Vegas brings two new large maps (Vegas Strip and Area 51), four new weapons, the faster Rapid Royale mode for REDSEC, a new season-long Battle Pass, and a limited-time Dead Space crossover event that starts a week after launch. Players on PlayStation and Steam who haven't picked up the game yet also get a free trial running October 15 through 19, with every map and mode open during that window.

The update also carries a long list of under-the-hood changes to footstep audio, Spectator Mode, Portal tooling and general stability, but the two changes worth planning around are the new arsenal and a full anti-air and vehicle rebalance. Both are covered below.

02The Four New Weapons and How to Earn Them

Phase One of Season 5 adds four weapons, each filling a different gap in the current sandbox:

  • Mk 24 (Assault Rifle): trades close-range forgiveness for strength at longer ranges, but carries a limited magazine, so count your shots before you commit to a fight.
  • RSPR (Personal Defence Weapon): a compact, short-range PDW with rifle-caliber stopping power. It holds its own at range better than most PDWs, at the cost of noticeably higher recoil.
  • Z84M (Light Machine Gun): belt-fed with a 100-round capacity and wide attachment support, built to anchor close-range pressure rather than reposition quickly.
  • ELR-40 (Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle): its standard mode has a long sweet spot at range, while flipping to single-shot mode shifts that sweet spot shorter, giving Recon players more flexibility between engagements.

EA's official patch notes don't spell out an unlock tier or challenge for any of the four, saying only that the new Season 5 Battle Pass is "loaded with new hardware to earn." In practice that means progressing the pass itself is currently the only confirmed route; treat any tier number you see elsewhere as unconfirmed until EA publishes the breakdown. The pass also includes six instant unlocks, four themed cosmetic paths and more than 100 tiers of rewards, while BF Pro adds six more instant unlocks, 25 tier skips, a bonus path, a 15% XP boost and persistent 100-player Portal server hosting.

Your First Session in Siege of Vegas

  1. 1Make sure your client is fully patched before queuing — Season 5 content (new maps, weapons and modes) only unlocks once the 12:00 UTC switch has flipped on top of the update.5 min
  2. 2The Mk 24, RSPR, Z84M and ELR-40 are tied to Battle Pass progression rather than a separate challenge chain, so open the pass first and see what's already unlocked.10 min
  3. 3Drop into a few rounds on Vegas Strip and scout the storm drain network under the boulevard — it's your best escape route when the open street turns into a vehicle kill zone.15 min
  4. 4Locate the crater that drops into Area 51's underground tunnels early in a match; it's the fastest way to flank the Air Traffic Control tower without crossing open desert.15 min
  5. 5Try REDSEC's Rapid Royale at least once before committing to it as your main mode — the faster ring and kill-based redeploys change how aggressively you should play compared to standard Battle Royale.10 min
  6. 6Take an AA turret or jet out for a few minutes to feel the new ammo stats and hit-count changes before relying on old matchup habits in a real fight.10 min

03Vegas Strip: Reading the New Battlefield

Vegas Strip is built for every scale of fight DICE ships in this game. It's tuned for land vehicles and helicopters as much as infantry, with open sightlines down the boulevard for long-range duels and large vehicle engagements, broken up by casinos, fountains, hotel towers and rooftop ziplines. If a lane feels too hot to cross on foot, look for the storm drains running underneath the Strip — they're built specifically for close-quarters fighting away from the vehicle traffic above.

Because the map mixes open boulevards with dense interiors, squad composition matters more here than on most current maps: a single anti-vehicle loadout can lock down a street, but it won't help you clear a casino floor. Rotate your kit between objectives rather than committing to one playstyle for the whole match.

04Area 51: Tunnels, Dirt Bikes and the ATC Tower

Area 51 flips the pacing. It's a desert military base with jets, helicopters and tanks fighting across the surface, but the map's identity is underground: a crater drops players into a tunnel network you can only reach that way, and a dirt bike is parked specifically for crossing the open hills between points quickly. Capturing or holding the Air Traffic Control tower is the clearest way to swing a match, since it anchors sightlines over most of the surface fighting.

This is also the map hosting October's Dead Space crossover. From October 20 through November 10, the Convergence Event turns part of Area 51 into a 16-player PvE mode against AI-controlled Marked Soldiers, built around a Marker artifact that's driving them to madness. You'll get access to a Pulse Rifle battle pickup for the mode, and clearing it unlocks an "Aegis VII" soldier skin, an SMG weapon package and several cosmetic extras.

05Rapid Royale and Ranked Battle Royale in REDSEC

REDSEC's new Rapid Royale mode compresses the standard Battle Royale loop: fewer players, faster matches, a ring of fire that closes quicker than usual, and airdrops stocked with high-tier loot instead of a slow climb through the loot pool. Kills earn you redeploys, which keeps eliminated players in the action instead of spectating out a long match. It runs on Vegas Strip and Mirak Valley.

Season 5 also marks the official launch of Ranked Battle Royale, with its own badge progression and reward track. If you've been playing Battle Royale casually and want a reason to sweat your rotations, this is the mode to jump into first.

REDSEC's loadouts shift too: Sniper Rifle and DMR ammo capacity drops from 70 to 60 rounds, several weapons now need one extra bullet to down armored targets at certain ranges, and Field Training has been rebalanced across all four classes — Hazmat Breacher for Assault and Drone Operator for Recon are both gone. Armor plating now applies 20% faster in both Battle Royale and Rapid Royale, with a further 12% on top of that if you're running the Quick Plating Engineer perk.

06Anti-Air and Vehicle Changes Everyone Needs to Know

If you fly or you shoot at things that fly, relearn your matchups before your next session. Mobile Anti-Air turrets now rotate 50% faster, zoom in further in first-person, and their projectiles hold a tighter drag profile out to roughly 800 meters. The ammo types attached to it changed just as much:

Ammo typeKey change
35mm High VelocityVelocity up to 1,250 m/s, convergence tightened to 90m, infantry damage up from 13 to 25, overheat penalty removed
Multi-Purpose AA ShellVelocity up to 1,175 m/s, burst mode removed, infantry damage up from 13 to 34, helicopter damage trimmed slightly
Anti-Armor AA ShellVelocity up to 900 m/s, rate of fire doubled to 480 RPM, magazine cut from 8 to 4, reload halved to 1.2 seconds

Fixed-wing and helicopter pilots lose some of their edge against infantry as a result: light rockets now need 7 hits to down a Scout Helicopter (up from 4), 9 for an Attack Helicopter and 15 for a Transport Helicopter, 70mm FFAR splash damage is cut by 30%, and rocket pod resupply cooldown stretches from 28 to 38 seconds. Ground vehicles aren't untouched either — MBT and IFV health regeneration is slightly slower, tanks now take 2.5x damage on rear hits between 86 and 94 degrees, and the GDF-009 cannon's rate of fire jumps from 720 to 1,100 RPM with its overheat penalty removed. One planned change, making low-flying aircraft more vulnerable to MANPADS, was held back for more testing and isn't in this update yet.

None of this means vehicles are weak this season — the GDF-009 and RWS turret buffs make ground-based anti-air more dangerous than before. It means the specific threats worth watching have moved, so don't assume your pre-Season 5 habits still apply the moment you queue into Vegas Strip or Area 51.

07What's Coming Later in the Season

Siege of Vegas is only Phase One. EA's roadmap points to a second phase called Casino Heist arriving November 10, which is expected to add the season's third map alongside more of the weapons and vehicles teased in the Season 5 reveal trailer, followed by another content drop on December 8. A Server Browser is also planned for later in the season, though no firm date has been attached to it yet. Treat anything beyond Phase One's confirmed October 13 and October 20 dates as subject to change until EA posts its own notes for those drops.

For now, the most efficient way to spend your first week is simple: clear the Battle Pass tiers that unlock the four new weapons, learn Vegas Strip's storm drains and Area 51's tunnel entrance before you need them in a firefight, and get a few Rapid Royale matches in while the mode is still fresh enough that most lobbies are still learning its faster pace alongside you.
