The hotfix targets two things players have been vocal about since day one: crashes hitting a small slice of the player base, and the neon-blue "Scent Trail" tracking effect that quickly became the game's most memed feature within hours of launch.

It's a fast turnaround for a studio that only shipped its day-one patch four days earlier. Insomniac built a reputation for quick post-launch support during the Spider-Man era, and the cadence on Wolverine so far — a launch patch, a follow-up hotfix, and a public promise of more Senses work to come — suggests that pattern is continuing here.

According to Insomniac's official patch notes, the update "addresses some common crashes experienced by a small percentage of players since launch" and separately "adjusts the presentation of the Scent Trails and Audio Sense indicators, including reduced opacity to make these visuals less intense." Insomniac is careful to frame this as a visual tuning pass rather than a removal — Logan's mutant tracking senses still guide you to objectives, clues, and collectibles, just with a softer, less saturated overlay than before.

The studio also confirmed it's continuing to "evaluate ways to further improve Senses in the game, including exploring toggleable options for a future update," which suggests a full on/off setting for the effect is still under consideration rather than confirmed for a specific patch.

02Insomniac Turns Down the "Fart Gas" Effect

The Scent Trail system renders Logan's heightened senses as a thick, glowing gas that billows across the screen whenever he's tracking a person, a clue, or a nearby collectible. Within hours of launch, players had nicknamed it "fart gas" for how dense and cartoonish it looked next to the game's otherwise grounded, cinematic combat. Community Director James Stevenson acknowledged the reaction directly, and update 1.001.005 is the first concrete response: the trail's opacity has been pulled back so it reads as a subtler guidance cue instead of a wall of color across the frame.

The crash-fix side of the patch is less flashy but arguably more important for stability. Insomniac hasn't published a full technical breakdown of the crash triggers — the wording "a small percentage of players" is the studio's own, and any deeper cause is currently unconfirmed. Update 1.001.005 follows the day-one patch, 1.001.004, which already covered a batch of fixes including English voiceover not playing under some console language settings and a mission-blocking issue with Jean Grey in a mission set in Japan. Director of Community and Marketing James Stevenson has also said a separate UV-texture bug is being tracked for a future patch, so players seeing visual artifacts on Logan's model shouldn't expect that specific fix in this build.

Whether a full toggle for the tracking visuals arrives, and when, hasn't been announced. For now, the safest read is that Insomniac is iterating on presentation first and holding a more configurable options menu in reserve if the feedback keeps coming.
