Treyarch shipped Black Ops 7 update 2.07 on consoles (1.109 on PC) on October 15, 2026, and it landed with no new maps, no new modes, and no new content of any kind. What it did bring is the last significant weapon balancing pass the game is going to get. With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 now live as of October 23, Treyarch's attention has shifted, and this patch is effectively the final word on how Black Ops 7's guns behave for the rest of its run. That makes it worth a full re-rank, not a quick patch recap.

This is an opinion piece built from the verified numbers in that update: rate of fire, damage ranges, headshot multipliers, and handling stats, weighed against how each weapon already performed before October 15. Nothing here is a lab test or a frame-by-frame breakdown; it is a practical read on where the meta lands now that the dust has settled.

Unlike a typical mid-season pass, this update didn't touch perks, equipment, or Scorestreaks beyond a minor damage increase for the Roc 20mm against enemy streaks. Every meaningful change is to a gun, which makes this an unusually clean snapshot of where the weapon meta stands heading into the game's final stretch of relevance.

TipBefore you grind attachments on the DS20 Mirage or REV-46, back out of your current loadout's muscle memory — both played differently before this patch, and old attachment choices built around their previous stats may no longer be optimal.

01Why This Patch Reshuffles the Board

The headline change is the TR51 Para losing its identity. The assault rifle's rate of fire dropped from 625 RPM to 588 RPM, and its maximum damage fell from 43 to 40, which removes the close-range two-shot headshot that made it a lobby staple since Season 6. At the other end, the DS20 Mirage got the biggest buff in the patch: its grenade launcher's inner explosion damage jumped from 34 to 54, with faster projectile velocity on top, turning a gimmick attachment into a genuine secondary damage source.

Marksman rifles took the hardest overall hit. The Warden 308, which had been the de facto best weapon in that class, lost its entire second damage-range band, had its headshot multiplier cut from 1.45x to 1.39x, and now moves slower while aiming. The M34 Novaline saw its burst rate of fire drop from 750 to 706 RPM and its ADS time slow from 350ms to 380ms. Shotguns, meanwhile, got hit across the board on handling rather than damage: every shotgun in the game is slower to sprint-fire, slide-fire, and dive-fire than it was before October 15.

02S-Tier: Build Around These

Two weapons come out of this patch stronger relative to the field than they went in.

  • DS20 Mirage — The grenade launcher buff alone would be notable, but paired with improved projectile velocity and better hip-fire spread and view kick, this assault rifle now has a genuine burst-damage tool attached to a already-competitive base weapon. With the TR51 Para no longer able to two-shot headshot at close range, the Mirage is the clearest pick for players who want an AR that still rewards aggression.
  • REV-46 — A quiet winner. Its maximum damage range extended from 14m to 15m, its headshot multiplier rose from 1.28x to 1.3x, and its stock now folds and unfolds 150ms faster for quicker ADS transitions. With the VMP's range gutted in the same patch, the REV-46 is now the SMG with the longest effective reach in its class, which is the single most valuable trait an SMG can have on Black Ops 7's larger maps.

Neither of these weapons was bad before October 15 — the difference is that both now have a clear edge the rest of the sandbox doesn't share. If you only level one weapon off the back of this patch, make it one of these two.

03A-Tier: Reliable Picks

These weapons either gained ground or came out of the patch close to where they started, and all of them remain strong choices.

  • Peacekeeper Mk1 — A mixed but net-positive change. Its headshot multiplier climbed from 1.25x to 1.34x, which rewards aim discipline more than it did before, even though its first medium damage range ticked down from 22 to 21. Still one of the best all-around ARs in the game.
  • Dravec 45 — Its maximum damage range extended from 11.4m to 12.7m, with both medium damage bands stretched further out as well. A genuine, if modest, buff that pushes it closer to REV-46 territory.
  • VST — A trade-off rather than a straight buff: its max damage range shrank from 7.6m to 6.6m, but its second medium range extended from 23.5m to 24.6m, turning it into even more of a mid-range specialist than before.
  • Gremlin — Small quality-of-life gains (a faster movement speed and more reserve ammo) plus the removal of the Procural Extended Mag's downsides make this SMG easier to run aggressively.
  • KRS 7.62 — Faster ADS time (330ms down to 315ms) and a small movement speed bump keep this marksman rifle relevant even as the Warden and Novaline both got worse.

04B-Tier: Still Usable, Just Overshadowed

Nothing here got worse enough to be unusable, but all four lost ground relative to the weapons above.

  • TR51 Para — Still a fine assault rifle on paper, but the loss of its signature close-range two-shot headshot is the kind of change that shows up immediately in lobbies. Treat it as a mid-range rifle now, not a run-and-gun one.
  • Warden 308 — The biggest single loser of the patch by raw numbers, but its base damage and range are still high enough that it remains playable for players who already have the recoil pattern memorized. Just don't expect the medium-range dominance it had before October 15.
  • MPC-25 — A wash: its max damage range shrank from 10.2m to 9.1m, but its first medium damage band rose from 23 to 24. Net effect is a slightly different playstyle rather than a clear upgrade or downgrade.
  • Sokol 545 — The Warpath Blitz Kit's ADS and sprint-to-fire times both improved slightly, which helps the LMG's mobility without changing its core identity.

05C-Tier and Below: Needs the Most Help

These are the weapons this patch left behind, either by direct nerf or by simply standing still while everything around them improved.

  • VMP — The clearest loser in the entire patch. A max damage range cut from 20.3m to 13.5m, on top of reduced medium and minimum ranges and worse view kick, strips away the long-range SMG niche that made it a top pick for most of Black Ops 7's lifecycle.
  • M34 Novaline — The burst rate of fire cut, slower ADS time, and reduced ADS movement speed add up to a marksman rifle that is simply harder to use well than it was a month ago.
  • Shotguns as a class — The SG-12, Echo 12, M10 Breacher, and Akita all got slower across sprint-fire, slide-fire, and dive-fire, and the M10 Breacher's Argus Lever attachment lost damage, range, and two full headshot multiplier tiers. None of these were dominant before the patch; all of them are harder sells now.
  • Mammoth and XM325 — Both LMGs got only minor, unspecified view-kick improvements. Functionally unchanged, which means they stay where they were: usable, but outclassed by the weapons above.

06How We Built This Tier List

This ranking is opinion, built from the patch's verified stat changes rather than from play-rate data or competitive results — Treyarch doesn't publish those for Black Ops 7 on its Steam store page or anywhere else. Here's the process behind it.

Where a weapon's handling changed without a published number — the DS20 Mirage's projectile velocity and hip-fire spread, for example, or the Mammoth's view kick — we've treated that as a directional signal (better or worse) rather than something we can quantify, and weighted it accordingly below the hard numbers.

How We Built This Tier List

  1. 1We started with every published number in the October 15 update — rate of fire, damage ranges, headshot multipliers, and handling times — rather than relying on secondhand nerf/buff lists.
  2. 2Each change was weighed against how that weapon already performed, since a small nerf to a dominant gun matters more than a bigger nerf to a weapon nobody uses.
  3. 3Assault rifles, SMGs, marksman rifles, shotguns and LMGs were ranked separately first, since a balance pass that helps ARs doesn't automatically change how SMGs stack up against each other.
  4. 4View kick, hip-fire spread and projectile velocity changes without published numbers were treated as directional signals, not hard data.
  5. 5A change that removes a weapon's core identity, like the TR51 Para's two-shot headshot, is weighted higher than a numerically larger change that doesn't alter how the gun is played.

If you're deciding what to level next, the short version is this: the DS20 Mirage and REV-46 are the two weapons that genuinely got better in a way that changes how they play, the Warden 308 and VMP are the two that got worse in a way that changes how they play, and almost everything else is a lateral move. Build your loadout around whichever playstyle those first two reward, not around habit from the last patch.

FAQ

What update is this tier list based on?

Black Ops 7 update 2.07 on consoles and 1.109 on PC, released October 15, 2026. It's described as the final major weapon balancing pass for Black Ops 7.

Which weapon got nerfed the hardest?

The Warden 308 marksman rifle lost its entire second damage range band, had its headshot multiplier cut from 1.45x to 1.39x, and now moves slower while aiming. The VMP's maximum damage range was also cut nearly in half, from 20.3m to 13.5m.

Which weapon got buffed the most?

The DS20 Mirage's grenade launcher attachment saw its inner explosion damage rise from 34 to 54, with faster projectile velocity on top, making it the biggest single winner of the patch.

Did shotguns get any damage changes?

No. Every shotgun in Black Ops 7 — the SG-12, Echo 12, M10 Breacher and Akita — had its sprint-fire, slide-fire and dive-fire times slowed instead, with no compensating damage buff.

Will Black Ops 7 get another weapon balance patch after this one?

Treyarch hasn't ruled it out, but the October 15 update is billed as the final major weapon balancing pass, and the studio's attention has shifted to supporting Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, which launched October 23, 2026.
