Paradox Interactive and co-developer Abrakam used a short, cinematic release-date trailer to confirm the next major Stellaris expansion: Willpower. The video, titled "Willpower S10E02: 'The Knight's Tale'" on the official Stellaris YouTube channel, locks in a November 23, 2026 launch date and gives the clearest look yet at how the expansion turns your empire's Ethics into a weapon you can spread across the galaxy. Here's everything the trailer and Paradox's own announcement confirm, broken down section by section.

01What Paradox Just Confirmed

Willpower is a paid expansion priced at $24.99 / £20.99 / €24.99, available on its own or bundled into the Season 10 Expansion Pass. It launches alongside the free 4.6 "Corona Borealis" update on November 23, which means every Stellaris player gets some of the underlying changes even without buying the DLC. The expansion itself is developed jointly by Paradox Development Studio and Abrakam, the same external studio that has worked on recent Stellaris content, and it ships exclusively on PC at launch.

The trailer's framing line, "the galaxy is ready to believe, what will you teach?", sets up the expansion's core idea: your empire's Ethics stop being a passive stat block and become something you actively export.

02Ideologies: Turning Ethics Into a Weapon

The headline system is Ideologies. An Ethic held with fanatic conviction can evolve into an Ideology that spreads beyond your own borders, using Starbases, Hyper Relays, and a new structure called Ideological Beacons to reach neighboring empires. Once your Ideology takes hold in a foreign population, it can form Fanatic Factions inside a rival empire, effectively turning their own citizens into a pressure group working against their government.

That power cuts both ways. Paradox's own materials warn that if your authority weakens, your colonies can radicalize and rise up against you, and spreading your Ideology too aggressively costs Momentum. Let Momentum run out while your Tenets drift from what you claim to believe, and your own internal factions can revolt. It's less a one-way broadcast and more a resource you have to keep feeding.

03Galactic Halls and the Force of Will Victory

Galactic Halls are the new building tying Ideologies to the map. They're relocatable, which is a deliberate departure from most Stellaris buildings, and they boost local output along with your Ideological Reach wherever they're placed. Put one above a core world and it strengthens that colony; move it to a frontier system and it projects your beliefs into contested space instead. Every Ethic gets its own Galactic Hall design, including, notably, a biological version for Ethics built around organic or Gaia-style empires.

Willpower also adds a new Ambition called Force of Will, which functions as an alternate victory condition. Instead of conquering the galaxy militarily, you win by converting populations, drawing other empires into your orbit, and sustaining enough Momentum to eventually defeat every Fallen Empire still standing. It's aimed at players who want a late-game goal that isn't just "paint the map."

04Ideological Diplomacy and the New Casus Belli

The trailer and Paradox's write-up both lean on a wider diplomatic layer. Other empires can formally adopt your doctrine, Federation members can enshrine an official belief in their founding laws, and the Galactic Community becomes a stage where you can publicly denounce a rival's Ideology. Espionage gets pulled into the system too: covert operations can manipulate how far your Ideological Reach extends, sow doubt in a target empire, or incite outright revolt in territory where your beliefs have already spread.

If subtler methods fail, a new Casus Belli lets you declare war specifically to impose your Ideology on the loser. Paradox's description of it is blunt: "it is still persuasion, only with more battleships."

05Three New Origins and the Rest of the Content List

Willpower adds three fresh starting Origins. Golden Generation has you running a Golden Academy that educates a cohort of students who become your empire's next wave of leaders. Lost Makers casts you as a Machine Intelligence searching the stars for the creators who built you, a storyline tied into one of the galaxy's existing Precursor chains. Great Mosaic is the loosest of the three, handing you an extra starting Civic with no prescribed narrative path, for players who'd rather build their own story than follow a scripted one.

Beyond the headline systems, the expansion adds five new Fanatic Civics, more than 40 events tracking Ideologies as they rise and fracture, eight Ideological Paragons tied to the major Fanatic Ethics, a dedicated Ideological building set, a new advisor, and an Inquisitor shipset and city set for empires that lean into enforcing their beliefs by force.

06Release Date, Price and How to Watch the Trailer

Willpower launches on PC on November 23, 2026. It's sold as a standalone purchase for $24.99 / £20.99 / €24.99 or included in the Season 10 Expansion Pass, and it's listed now on Steam alongside the base game. The free Corona Borealis update ships the same day for everyone, regardless of whether they own the expansion. If your current save already leans into one dominant Ethic, this is worth bookmarking alongside the official Stellaris Wiki's ethics and government pages before the launch, since several of the new mechanics build directly on top of systems that exist in the base game today.

The release-date trailer itself runs through the Ideologies pitch in cinematic form rather than showing menu screens, so treat it as a tone-setter for what's coming rather than a tutorial. For the mechanical detail, Paradox's own written breakdown and the Steam store page cover the specifics in plain text.

TipIf you're mid-campaign when Willpower launches on November 23, check which Ethic your empire currently leans on hardest. Ideologies grow out of whichever Ethic you're already holding with fanatic conviction, so that's the one you'll likely be spreading first once the expansion unlocks.
