Silent Hill: Townfall: PC Performance Patch Confirmed by Konami

Silent Hill: Townfall launched to mixed PC reviews over stutter and CPU spikes, and Konami has now confirmed a performance patch is on the way.

SILENT HILL: Townfall launched on September 23, and its first 72 hours have been defined by two very different conversations. Critics and story-focused players are largely praising Screen Burn's return to a fog-choked island town, while PC owners are reporting stutter and frame-rate drops severe enough that Konami has now gone on record to say a fix is coming.

01A Fogbound Return to St. Amelia

Townfall is developed by the Scottish studio Screen Burn and published by KONAMI alongside Annapurna Interactive. It puts players in control of Simon Ordell, who returns to the isolated island town of St. Amelia to "put things right," only to be pulled into evasion, combat and psychological puzzles that expose the town's buried history. A handheld device called the CRTV lets Ordell pick up flickers of St. Amelia's past as he explores, in a first-person structure that's a deliberate departure from the over-the-shoulder camera of past mainline entries.

Deluxe Edition owners got a 48-hour early-access window starting September 22, with the full release following on September 23 for PlayStation 5 and Windows PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. There is no Xbox version at launch. Townfall is rated M for Mature by the ESRB, citing blood, strong language and violence, and arrives as one of several new titles in Konami's ongoing Silent Hill revival alongside the Silent Hill 2 remake and Silent Hill f โ€” Screen Burn's franchise debut.

02Mixed Reception: What's Behind the Scores

Steam's own review aggregate currently sits at "Mixed," with roughly two-thirds of the more than 2,400 written reviews positive. That split lines up with what players are describing in those reviews: persistent micro-stutter, sudden frame-rate drops and unusually high CPU usage that shows up even on higher-end graphics cards, regardless of settings. The atmosphere, sound design and puzzle-driven pacing are the parts reviewers keep singling out as the highlights that the performance problems get in the way of.

Townfall's own Steam store page lists a "Camera Comfort" feature among its accessibility options, alongside adjustable difficulty and subtitle controls, so Screen Burn clearly anticipated that the first-person camera work needed tuning options at launch. For PC players who find the default head-bob and camera movement uncomfortable on top of the performance issues, those comfort sliders are worth opening before anything else.

The PlayStation 5 version has drawn far fewer performance complaints than the PC build, which is where Konami's attention is now focused.

03Konami and Screen Burn Confirm a Fix Is Coming

On September 24, the official SILENT HILL Steam Community page posted a "Notice: Upcoming Update Plans" announcement. It confirms the team is "currently working on an update patch to address performance-related issues affecting the Steam and Epic Games Store versions," and that a release date will follow "as soon as it is confirmed." No patch notes, build number or timeline have been published yet โ€” Konami is directing players to its official channels for the announcement when it lands, rather than committing to a specific week.

That's a narrower promise than a full patch note list, but it does confirm two things worth knowing before launch night: the studio is aware the Steam and Epic builds specifically are affected, and the PC version is the one getting the dedicated pass. Nothing in the notice mentions PlayStation 5 changes, which tracks with how much quieter the console feedback has been.

04What This Means If You're Still Deciding to Buy

If you're playing on PlayStation 5, none of this changes much: the console version is the more stable way to experience St. Amelia right now. If you're on PC, the story and puzzle design are still worth the trip, but go in expecting to spend time in the settings menu, and don't be surprised if a mid-range or even high-end rig sees occasional hitching until Screen Burn's patch arrives.

There is no confirmed release date for that patch yet, so the safest plan is to treat any purchase-day PC frustrations as temporary rather than final. Until Konami posts the follow-up notice, our rundown of Townfall's launch settings covers which sliders make the biggest difference in the meantime, and it's worth revisiting once the official patch lands to see what's changed.
