Rust Halloween 2026: Rifts, Frankenstein Pets and Candy Hunt
Rust's Halloween 2026 update adds mysterious rifts, a Frankenstein pet-crafting system and a returning candy hunt, live through November 5 with no wipe.
Rust's annual Halloween event is live, and the 2026 version leans harder into horror-movie staging than any recent year's candy hunt. Facepunch Studios shipped the Halloween Patch (changelist 4047) on October 22, confirmed on the official Rust devblog, and the seasonal content runs on every official server until November 5.
01No Wipe, But a Full Seasonal Overhaul
Unlike several past Halloween drops, this update did not force a server wipe, so existing bases, loot and progress carry over untouched. What did change is the map's mood: scarecrows and mummies now roam the island, undead corpses drop new gear, and the night skies hide something Facepunch itself says it can't fully explain yet. Because there's no wipe requirement, the event content is live on long-running official servers immediately, and most popular modded and community servers tend to pull the client-required update within a day or two of the official rollout.
02The Rifts: Rust's Strangest Mystery Yet
The centerpiece of this year's event is a set of glowing rift portals that open in random locations across the map. Facepunch's own write-up is deliberately vague about what's inside: "The rifts open in random locations, leading to who-knows-where," the devblog reads, adding that only a handful of players have gone in and come back out. In-game lore points to cultists tearing the portals open, though some players suspect they're tied to a Cobalt Corporation experiment code-named R.U.I.N. Server owners who want more or fewer of them can tune the halloweendungeon.population convar.

03Candy Hunt Returns, With Better Rewards
The classic Candy Hunt minigame is back on a roughly two-in-game-day timer. When it triggers, players get three minutes to grab as much candy as possible, and the top three collectors earn special loot bags. Candy and bags can drop anything from basic scrap up to an M249, and any candy you don't cash in immediately can be upgraded into better loot later, so there's a real incentive to keep farming rather than hoarding.
04Build Your Own Frankenstein's Monster
The new pet system is the biggest mechanical addition of the event. Slain scarecrows and mummies drop body parts, and if a player collects a head, a torso and a pair of legs, they can craft a Frankenstein's table, load the parts in, and awaken the creature. Once alive, the monster follows its owner, defends them from attackers, and can be sent after a target with the P key. Players whose P key is already bound to something else can rebind pet controls with bind X +pets or through the in-game controls menu.

05New and Returning Gear on Undead Corpses
Killing the island's new undead enemies drops a handful of Halloween-specific items. A Dracula Cape and a Wooden Stake both come from undead corpses, with the stake able to end an undead enemy in a single hit for extra loot. A purchasable Dracula Mask offers early-game head protection for ten cloth, and three reskins round out the set: a Cultist Deer Torch that persists through respawns once equipped, a Hockey Facemask skin for the Metal Facemask, and a Baseball Bat skin for the mace. Mummy Underwear also replaces the default starter underwear at no crafting cost.
None of these drops require a purchase to use effectively — the Dracula Cape and Wooden Stake are both earned purely by fighting undead enemies, which makes farming corpses near rifts and candy hunt spawns worth doing even if you have no interest in the store cosmetics below.
06Store Cosmetics and the Discord Wumpus Plush
Facepunch's in-game shop is carrying a Spooky Decor Bundle with three wallpapers, a Skull Wall Lamp skin, a Halloween Wreath and String Lights, alongside standalone Skull Trophy and Skull Spike packs and an inflatable Alien Costume in three color variants. Separately, Discord Nitro subscribers can redeem a Zombie Wumpus Plush companion with Discord Orbs in the Rust Game Shop between October 22 and November 5 — it's a deployable, stackable decoration that grants a comfort bonus when placed nearby. None of this cosmetic content affects the rift mystery, the candy hunt or the Frankenstein pets, which remain free for every player.
07Twitch Rivals and Drop Timing
Rust's Twitch Rivals Base Invaders competition kicked off October 23 and runs general drops through November 1, with a one-day Spooky Backpack drop layered on top. Viewers who link their Twitch and Steam accounts can earn event drops on any live Rust channel while the competition runs. With the Halloween event itself open until November 5, there's plenty of time to farm rift sightings, candy and monster parts before everything reverts to normal.
FAQ
Is there a forced wipe with Rust's Halloween 2026 update?
No. Facepunch's October 22 Halloween Patch (changelist 4047) does not require a server wipe, so existing bases and progress carry over.
How long does the Rust Halloween 2026 event run?
The event is live from October 22 through November 5, 2026, according to Facepunch's official devblog.
What do the rift portals actually do in Rust?
Facepunch hasn't fully explained them. The official devblog says only that they open in random locations and lead who-knows-where, with in-game lore pointing to cultists or a Cobalt Corporation experiment called R.U.I.N. — unconfirmed beyond that.
How do you get a Frankenstein's monster pet in Rust?
Kill scarecrows and mummies for a head, torso and legs, combine them at a Frankenstein's table, then awaken the monster and control it with the P key (or bind X +pets if P is already bound to something else).
Can server owners control how many rifts spawn?
Yes, the halloweendungeon.population convar lets server owners adjust the number of active rift portals.
